Zach Sims traces Codecademy’s path from early experiments and work at GroupMe to finding a way to teach programming that he and his co-founder needed themselves. He describes how setbacks, blunt feedback, and a last-minute pivot during Y Combinator helped them discover a product people wanted. The talk argues that founders should start before they feel ready, learn by building, and work on problems they care about. Sims also emphasizes that startup success is uneven and that persistence matters through both growth and setbacks.
