Should I Use a Dev Shop?

Michael Seibel explains why outsourcing an initial product to a dev shop is often a poor fit for founders aiming to build a venture-scale tech startup. It can take longer and cost more than expected, make fundraising harder, and leave founders needing to rebuild the product before they can iterate. Early-stage investors often care more about a team's ability to build and iterate than about early traction. Seibel recommends taking the time to find a technical co-founder, while acknowledging that using a dev shop can work in some situations.
