Speaker

Perttu Lähteenlahti of RevenueCat talks with Callstack about AI tools for paywalls and subscription revenue, developer SDKs, and the Ship-a-ton hackathon.

AI tools for building and managing paywalls

RevenueCat's AI Paywall Editor can use an app screenshot or design system to generate a paywall, including assets and descriptions. Lähteenlahti also describes Rico, a dashboard assistant that can analyze app performance, suggest pricing and experiments, and help troubleshoot SDK errors.

SDKs for wherever developers build

RevenueCat supports native Android and iOS SDKs, along with React Native, Kotlin Multiplatform, and Unity. Lähteenlahti says the company aims to provide an SDK wherever developers are working, and hopes to add Godot support.

A hackathon focused on shipping apps

Ship-a-ton asks participants to build a mobile app and release it for the first time during a two-month period. This year, RevenueCat expects prizes to approach half a million dollars and aims for 3,000 app releases. Students can enter without submitting to an app store by providing a working app, video, and code for review.

Upcoming work in monetization

Lähteenlahti points to multi-page paywalls that can form part of an onboarding flow, plus more support for ads and ad revenue data. He also says RevenueCat plans to expand virtual currencies and put more emphasis on React Native Web, web billing, and web purchases.

Takeaways

  • A screenshot or design system can serve as input for generating a paywall, including its supporting assets and copy.
  • RevenueCat's SDK coverage spans native mobile and several cross-platform frameworks, with Godot support described as a possibility.
  • Rico is intended to connect revenue analysis with experiment suggestions and SDK troubleshooting in one dashboard assistant.
  • A first-release requirement and a two-month window give Ship-a-ton a concrete goal: help developers publish apps they have been building.
  • Paywalls, ads, virtual currencies, and web purchasing are all part of RevenueCat's stated monetization direction.
