Alexis Ohanian

Alexis Ohanian welcomes attendees to the first Startup School in New York City and recalls attending the inaugural event with Reddit co-founder Steve Huffman. He encourages founders to learn from one another and make the most of conversations during breaks. He highlights YC-backed companies building in New York and describes the energy he has seen among students starting projects and learning to code. He closes by emphasizing that technology lets people pursue ambitious change with little more than a laptop.

Alexis Ohanian closes Startup School NY 2014 by celebrating Watsi as Y Combinator’s first nonprofit accepted into its program. He thanks the speakers, startups, event staff, and attendees, and asks for feedback to help improve future events. He announces upcoming Startup School events in London and the Valley, along with the first Y Combinator Hackathon. The talk is mainly event wrap-up and announcements rather than instruction.
