Speaker

Peter Yang, a product manager and creator at Peter Yang, reviews Claude Design from Anthropic through five hands-on use cases; no other location or co-speaker is stated.

Animated videos and slide decks

Yang uses Claude Design to turn Anthropic’s announcement into a 30-second social video, choosing a warm tone and letting the tool decide some details. The generated video took about four or five minutes and included animated illustrations, but he couldn’t export it as a video. For slides, he found that turning a generated video into a deck produced a more engaging result than asking for a static deck directly; he also manually edited text and palette choices.

Landing pages and interactive graphics

Yang asks Claude Design to recreate the Claude Cowork marketing page with a minimal prompt. He estimates the result is about 80% accurate, with missing video and some visual differences, then prompts a humorous rewrite about Anthropic taking over knowledge work. He also demonstrates a rotating globe graphic and editable text with effects such as fire, smoke, lightning, ice, and stars.

Mobile app prototyping

Yang has Claude Design create a strength-training app for a busy professional, with clickable navigation. After about four minutes, it produces a workout flow with a push-day home screen and a bench-press session where users can adjust weights and effort. He notices overlapping text, while the tool takes screenshots and attempts to fix issues during its review.

Design systems and final assessment

Yang uploads an Apple Liquid Glass UI kit and asks Claude Design to create a design system covering typography, color, spacing, icons, motion, radii, and shadows. The process takes about ten minutes and uses many tokens; he says reviewing the system requires design knowledge he doesn’t have. An app made with that system has overlap problems and looks worse than the earlier fitness app, leading Yang to describe Claude Design as early and buggy while still recommending it for experimentation.

The shift toward AI-assisted knowledge work

Yang argues that Anthropic is assembling a broader knowledge-work suite with Claude Code, Claude Design, and Cowork, putting it in competition with tools such as Figma, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Replit, Lovable, and Gamma. He describes a workflow where AI generates about 90% of a design and people refine the remaining 10%. He sees this as an opportunity for solo builders, while noting uncertainty about how Anthropic’s products fit together.

Takeaways

  • Use AI to draft the first version, then budget time to refine the remaining details manually.
  • For more animated presentations, generate a video first and convert it into a deck.
  • Treat recreated websites as rough starting points: Yang found missing elements and visual inaccuracies.
  • Review app prototypes for usability issues such as overlapping text, even when the tool runs its own checks.
  • A design system is most useful when its rules are clear enough to review and apply consistently.
